Abstract:
Before the end of Brezhnev’s rule in the USSR, and outside of it, pessimism will be more openly in the communist world. It will no longer be a secret that the Soviet leadership has lost both the elan and the direction, which will cause concern among the most loyal supporters of the communist regime. By the end of the 1970s, more people would believe that the system was wrong and that an even greater disaster was inevitable. Economic dissatisfaction will significantly affect the rise of pessimism. But worse than the fall in production and productivity will be the decline in morale and the loss of interest in work, corruption and abuse of power. As long as Soviet society is practically isolated from external information, Soviet citizens can not compare their fate with the situation in the developed countries of the West. But information will gradually penetrate and the Soviet citizens will realize that not only will the West not reach, but their system will be increasingly lagging behind and the standard of living will be worse.
