Abstract: Determining the applicable law means determining the law of which country will be applied to resolve a private legal relationship with a foreign element. The court or other body applying a foreign law should apply it in the same way as the court or other appropriate body of the country whose law it is. In comparative law, the rule lex loci celebrationis is widely accepted, it is also valid as a basic rule for the recognition of marriages concluded abroad. However, some countries also provide additional, alternative rules regarding the recognition of foreign marriages. The solutions for determining the applicable law for the recognition of marriages concluded abroad in comparative law, as well as in the positive law of our country, will be the subject of consideration in this paper.
