Abstract: Until the early 1990s, dual citizenship was extremely rare. It was prevented by most states because it was considered a threat to state sovereignty and a source of conflicting obligations and affiliations, and it caused problems in the relationship between the state and the citizen that seemed insurmountable: double obligation to serve in the army, double taxation, double voting, double use of social privileges.
Keywords: citizenship, dual citizenship, states, privileges, citizen
